Meet the Kernfarm Team

Kernfarm started trading in 2014. We are a growing family business set up by a strong team of three brothers; Tim, Diederik and Gijs van Rijn.

Collectively we draw upon our different skills and backgrounds to provide quantifiable benefits and solutions to our customers within the livestock pharmaceutical market.

Tim van Rijn - Director

With an international sales background and keen interest in differing cultures, Tim is well equiped to develop international networks on behalf of Kernfarm and liaise with a variety of clients and partners across the globe. Tim is an opportunist and always looking for new possibilities to develop business ideas and provide solutions to customer challenges.

Tim is a regular point of contact for Kernfarm clients and deals with sales, business develop and finance. If you have a business idea to discuss, or a problem which needs solving, Tim is incredibly committed to investigate the possibilities and find solutions.

When he is not developing a new business opportunity for Kernfarm, Tim can be found at home with his family, exploring a new country or on skis at the top of a mountain. He is also easily challenged on a golf course.

Tim van Rijn - Director

Gijs van Rijn - Director

Gijs has a wealth of experience and a network of contacts gained from his role working with the Amsterdam Economic Board, leading sustainable collaboration projects across the EU. His knowledge of working with stakeholders in the public and private sector has facilitated the development of the products and service Kernfarm offers.

Gijs’s core responsibility at Kernfarm is quality and registrations. He oversees the registration process, from current products to new products and product recalls and is in regular contact with the relevant authorities, government and regulatory bodies to shape legislation and ensure that Kernfarm is compliant.

Ensuring that quality control and quality assurance are at the very forefront of Gijs’s work and what Kernfarm does. He prides himself on good internal processes, maintaining high standards and working within the GMP compliancy framework.

Alongside his role at Kernfarm, Gijs is a proud dad, a spontaneous traveller, an avid football fan and likes a good round of golf.

Diederik van Rijn - Director

Diederik’s background is in the agricultural, pharmaceutical and trading world so Kernfarm is a natural fit. Prior to setting up Kernfarm Diederik gained experience from working as a business unit manager for a large International pharmaceutical company and also for an agricultural trading company overseas.

Diederik’s focus at Kernfarm is business development and sales. He strives to continually improve the product portfolio and service Kernfarm offers and develop a valuable position for the company within the pharmaceutical market.

When not securing new sales for Kernfarm, Diederik enjoys endurance sports, being outside with his family and hunting for his next catch.

Cynthia Baaijens - Quality Assurance Manager

Cynthia’s background is in the medical industry, firstly in nursing and thereafter in sales and recruitment. Her last position was leading the Quality Assurance for a company developing medical devices for the consumer market.

Cynthia is Quality Manager at Kernfarm and is responsible for ensuring that Kernfarm is compliant with the GMP regulations alongside internal Standard Operating Procedures.

Cynthia strengthens the Kernfarm team both from a quality and commercial perspective. Her keen eye for detail, precision and determination create new opportunities to work more effectively and efficiently within the QA framework.

When she’s not overseeing the quality assurance at Kernfarm Cynthia is spending time with her family, dreaming about travels and scoring goals on the hockey pitch!

Maggy Brinkert - Office Assistent

Maggy strengthens the Kernfarm team as Office Assistent. Maggy has a wealth of experience gained from working for many years in different roles within a warehouse environment. This is why she began at Kernfarm as a Team Leader Warehouse & Production.

Maggy is responsible for the process of procurement and transport, production planning and sales, all in close cooperation with department Production & Warehouse.

She feels very at home in the Kernfarm warehouse and enjoys ensuring that everything is running smoothly and that goods are received and dispatched correctly and on time.

Suzanne Dorresteijn Hadders, DVM – Technical Specialist

Suzanne’s passion for caring for livestock began as a child, growing up on a farm in Wilnis and Zeewolde in the Netherlands. Upon completing her studies in 2008 and qualifying as a vet, Suzanne worked at a large animal practice in the Groene Hart for 2,5 years as cattle vet. She then spent a year in Cambridge, UK where she worked in a large animal practice and worked with students from the London Royal Veterinary College too. Following her return to the Netherlands, Suzanne worked part-time as a vet and part-time teaching students at Utrecht University.

At Kernfarm, Suzanne is responsible for using her in-depth knowledge to provide technical advice to assist with the development and broadening of the product portfolio. She also offers training to the rest of the team at Kernfarm. Suzanne is excited to be working with Kernfarm, a company that is a breath of fresh air within the livestock pharmaceutical market.

Outside work, Suzanne can be found with her family and looking after their dog, goat, sheep, plus two goats! To let off steam, she likes to run with her dog and from time to time let her hair down at a good music concert.

Vanessa Wakanno - Finance and Office Administrator

Before working at Kernfarm Vanessa was working in the client and customer services department at Mediq in Utrecht, a pharmaceutical company offering medical devices and healthcare solutions.

Vanessa has the broad role of Finance and Office Administrator at Kernfarm. Full of energy, Vanessa strives to learn all aspects of the Kernfarm business and help out where she can. She likes the variety of her job – working both in the office assisting marketing and finance with their administration and also in the warehouse as needed.

When not at work, Vanessa likes to let off steam by going for a run. She is proud of her Moluccan roots and likes to spend time with her family and help with organizing events within the local Moluccan community.

Rebekka van Zanten - Warehouse and Production

Rebekka’s background is in warehouse and production work after working for a time at Mattison, a company supplying a range of natural and organic lifestyle products such as supplements, vitamins and health snacks.

She is now a valued part of the warehouse and production team at Kernfarm, responsible for ensuring that products are relabeled to a high standard ready for delivery to Kernfarm customers. She also supports the warehouse manager by assisting with incoming goods and order picking. She likes the varying work at Kernfarm and especially the companionship offered by the rest of the Kernfarm team.

When not in the warehouse Rebekka likes spending time in the garden with her husband and three dogs – Lady, Cinta and Beau. She also likes getting creative and has various craft projects on the go including making her own wedding album!

Reina van Wageningen - Warehouse and Production

Reina grew up on farm so is no stranger to having animals around her and now enjoys living in Nieuwer ter Aa, close to the head office of Kernfarm in Breukelen.

Prior to working at Kernfarm Reina worked in housekeeping. After a stroke affected Reina’s mobility she started working at PAUW a social work organization which helps people reintegrate into the workforce. At Kernfarm, Reina is part of the warehouse and production team helping Kernfarm with relabeling and packaging of medicines to sell in the Netherlands and across Europe. Reina has become an established, reliable and loyal member of the Kernfarm team and enjoys her work and sharing a joke with her colleagues.

When she is at home, Reina is kept busy with her family and active grandchildren. To relax Reina likes to go to the gym and get stuck into a good puzzle.

Reina van Wageningen - Warehouse and Production

Gwen Windhorst - Business Support Manager

Gwen strengthens the Kernfarm team as Business Support Manager. Gwen lives with her family in Utrecht, close by to the Kernfarm head office. After studying Facility Management at Wageningen, Gwen began working at for the Dutch railway company and thereafter for twenty years at the Rabobank where she gained a wealth of experience in various positions both front end and back end including management of finances for Food and Agri corporates. After the Rabobank, Gwen made the conscious decision to work for smaller, professional and dynamic companies, scale-ups. Starting at the Tuk Tuk Factory in Diemen where she was responsible for setting up a coordination centre, running HR, facilities and improving the efficiency of the business and now for Kernfarm. Gwen enjoys anything active – running, yoga, skiing, she even cycles to work on her racing bike!

Gwen Windhorst - Business Support Manager

Sonja Smit - van der Most - Marketing Manager

Improving the quality of life is the common thread in Sonja’s career. She worked as a dental hygienist in various practices in Amsterdam and at the Dutch Royal Navy. At the same time she followed a second study Commercial Economics, after which she gained a lot of commercial experience as Account Manager at an innovative dental company. Sonja then switched to the pharmaceutical industry and became responsible for all marketing and communication at Fagron (specialist in pharmacy compounding) with her marketing team.

After nearly 10 inspiring years in human pharmacy, Sonja now tackles Kernfarm’s challenge in the veterinary industry. With her creativity and enthusiasm, she hopes to firmly position Kernfarm, so that veterinarians and wholesalers are aware of Kernfarm’s activities and have sufficient choice to improve the welfare of farmers’ livestock.

Outside work Sonja trains for the half marathon running, she likes to wander brocantes and dreams of ever re-creating and decorating an old farmhouse with her family…

Sonja Smit - van der Most - Marketing Manager

Fokko Aldershoff, DVM - Technical & Account Specialist

Fokko’s interest as a veterinarian is in the pursuit of sustainable livestock farming and keeping animals healthy. At Kernfarm Fokko can combine his curiosity about exploring new possibilities with his knowledge as a veterinarian. He likes the contact with customers and the technical support of these customers, combined with trying and doing new things.

After graduating in 2013, Fokko worked as a veterinarian in New Zealand for several years, with a focus on cattle. Upon his return to the Netherlands, he broadened his knowledge by fulfilling two international, commercial-technical roles in cattle genetics and specialist animal feed.  Working on different types of companies, with different animal species and a variety of people, from individual cattle owners to owners of large integrations, which was very educational and interesting.

Fokko lives in Nieuwkoop with his wife, two children, two cats and three chickens. In his spare time, he likes to go outside. Cycling, sailing, gardening and visiting a football match (in Amsterdam), alternated with a good book, are among the favourites of Fokko.

Fokko Aldershoff, DVM - Technical & Account Specialist

Antoon Verbeek, Teamleader Warehouse & Production

Antoon lives in Breukelen and cycles to Kernfarm within eight minutes. Previously, his travel distance was a little further, to the international packaging company Greif in Vreeland, where he has held various production and logistics positions for many years. In the last position he held at Greif, he was responsible for, among other things  planning, procurement, inventory management, technical warehouse, invoicing and expedition.

Antoon joined Kernfarm since October 2019. He deals with a variety of activities within the production and logistics processes. Working carefully, in a structured and efficient way are essential in our business, you can certainly leave that to Antoon.

In his spare time, Antoon is there for his family. He is very handy and always busy making improvements in his home, but for an exciting football match, a Formula 1 race or an hour of walking with his dog Spike, he likes to put his jobs aside.

Marlena Stepinska – Warehouse Assistant

Marlena has been strengthening the Kernfarm team since May 2020. She is the right-hand man of the Team Leader Production & Warehouse and assists with all processes. It also ensures that all orders and other activities within the company are handled properly and with care. In case of need, Marlena will also assist within production.

Marlena has gained her work experience at Warehouse & Production at Mattisson. As a Team Leader Production & Warehouse, Marlena dealt with all the processes within Mattisson and worked there with foods (vitamins, supplements, organic snacks etc). Marlena excels in care and precise work, which is a perfect match within her job. Marlena is a hard worker and goes to work with a smile every day. She works efficiently, with passion and gives a lot of attention to all processes within the company.

Marlena lives with her boyfriend in the beautiful, small village of Kockengen.  She likes to read books, preferably psychological thrillers, crimis and occasionally good, romantic stories.
