How it started

Kernfarm was established based on the need to offer veterinarians a greater choice.

The main task of a veterinarian is of course to keep animals healthy. In 2014, the brothers Tim, Diederik and Gijs van Rijn noticed that veterinarians were not always able to perform their job properly. This was – and still is – often due to the fact that a specific vaccine is not authorised in the United Kingdom, or because it is temporarily unavailable for delivery to the United Kingdom. Often the same product is available in other European countries. They wanted to tackle this problem and thus established Kernfarm.

“It is virtually impossible for an individual veterinarian to have a clear view of all the alternatives for a treatment, intervention or prevention strategy. Let alone that a veterinarian knows exactly which legal options are available to import certain essential products into the United Kingdom.”

Tim, Diederik and Gijs combine their many years of experience in the corporate and public sectors to give the veterinarian access to more treatment options. This allows the veterinarian to focus on his core business: making animals healthy and keeping them that way.

The many faces

Kernfarm develops its own products as a pharmaceutical manufacturer. In addition, we play a role as network and collaboration organisation, strategic partner, trend watcher, administration and registration office and logistics service provider. The central theme in all these roles is to assist the veterinarian.

What does Kernfarm do?

Kernfarm acts on the needs of veterinarians. A veterinarian informs us about products that he is unable to secure, stumbling blocks that he encounters and which problems need to be tackled via a broader approach.

Kernfarm knows the international veterinary medicinal products market and acts as an extension of veterinarians together with a broad network of partners. We offer knowledge and skills in legal and logistics aspects within the veterinary world. The European legislation offers various opportunities to support veterinarians to obtain the correct medicinal products at the correct price.

European legislation allows for products to be purchased and used within the boundaries of the EU. Under strict conditions, it is – for example – permitted to obtain products from other European countries that do not have a Dutch authorisation, but which are authorised for use in another member state.

If such a product is required on a structural basis, then authorisation in the United Kingdom can be considered. In that case, the product must comply with the British requirements in terms of packaging and insert, and the product must be marketed correctly. Kernfarm can take care of this too.

Future-proof business model

Our goal is to be the one and only point of contact for veterinarians. Achieving this requires ongoing business development. To do this, we're expanding our product range, which includes our FIXR® vaccine line, embodying all of Kernfarm's values. Collaboration is at the heart of our business, and we're keen on expanding this aspect. We're actively seeking partnerships within Europe. We also strive to be an appealing employer, and one way we do this is by empowering our staff and giving them ownership of their projects.

These brothers love to see happy customers

These brothers believe in an honest veterinary medicines industry. An industry in which transparency and trust form the basis of success. So that veterinarians can be equipped with a back-up plan and have access to more treatment options. This allows the veterinarian to focus on his core business: making animals healthy and keeping them that way. “We thrive on challenges.
